1) No Sockets Working

When electrical problems occur with your sockets in Liverpool, you need an electrician that specialises in diagnosing and fixing electrical issues. Before phoning for an emergency call out, have a read of the article below to see if we can help with your electrical emergency.

2) Check the fuse box

The first step in electrical fault finding is to check the fuse box / consumer unit in your home to establish if any of the switches have tripped or devices have operated. A blown fuse will cause power loss to lights, sockets or other electrical equipment. The fuse box / consumer unit is the control centre of the electrical system and is normally the point where electrical faults will show themselves.

3) Has the Circuit Breaker Tripped?

What is a circuit breaker? Well a circuit breaker is a type of overcurrent protection device hat stops electrical cables from becoming damaged when there is an electrical fault.

A circuit breaker is a type of trip switch and will turn off when too much power is being used on that electrical circuit or if there is a short circuit on the circuit.

If your circuit breaker has tripped then go around the house and unplug (actually take the plugs out) al of your electrical equipment from your plug sockets. Then try resetting the circuit breaker to see if it stays on. If the circuit breaker makes a loud pop and turns off again, then it is likely that you have an electrical fault with your wiring. You will need to call us for an emergency callout.

4) Has the RCD tripped?

An RCD is installed in our homes for the purposes of preventing electrical shocks and to help switch off circuits when there are electrical faults present. Again, one of the first things that you need to do is to unplug all the electrical devices from your plug sockets before attempting to reset the RCD switch. An RCD will trip for a whole variety of reasons but one of the most common reasons is faulty appliances. If you have NO ELECTRICAL PLUG SOCKETS WORKING IN LIVERPOOL, you may find that the RCD has tripped.

The RCD device is a trip switch that is installed in your consumer unit and will normally be labelled RCD, RCB, RCCB. The switch will have a TEST button and will often be a larger physical size than the other switches.

5) Has NOTHING tripped?

If nothing has tripped in your fuse box or consumer unit, have you got lights? It you have no lights, no sockets and nothing electrical working in your home then it is likely that there is a power cut in your area. EVEN IF YOUR NEIGHBOURS have power, you may not.

If NOTHING electrical in your home is working then you may wish to call 105 freephone to check in with your local electricity network operator. They should be able to tell you if there are any emergency or planned works in your area that are affecting your electrical supply.

6) Risk of Electrical Fires

If there are no power problems in the street, nothing has tripped and you have no sockets, I would STRONGLY advise turning off your electrical supply and calling us straight away for emergency attendance. There could be a risk of electrical fires under these circumstances so it is important to turn off your MAIN SWITCH to isolate the electrical supply to your home.

Turning off the main switch should mean that no electrical sockets, no lights and no electrical equipment works in your home. It also reduces the risk of electrical fires from starting.

7) Just one plug socket stopped working?

If only one plug socket has stopped working then it could be a faulty socket or loose electrical wiring. Loose connections can cause electrical fires so its quite important that you have local emergency electricians check this out for you. Simply "not using" that one faulty socket is not enough to prevent electrical danger and possible property damage. Electrical issues like faulty sockets should be fixed without delay.

The right electrician with the correct test equipment will be able to diagnose and fix electrical socket problems quickly and efficiently.
