There can be a number of ways that a BROKEN PLUG SOCKET LIVERPOOL occurs but rest assured, as skilled Liverpool electricians, we are able to help. Electrical problems can occur with a power socket at any time and are usually easy and quick to locate.

Typical problems with faulty sockets can include:

  • Broken plug socket
  • Crackling plug socket
  • Burnt plug socket
  • One side of socket not working
  • Electrical sockets not working but nothing has tripped
  • Sockets tripping the power
  • Dead Outlets

1) Broken plug socket

A broken or damaged plug socket is normally an obvious issue. But cracks in a plug socket can indicate that there may be other problems to be fixed. Most impact damage will cause a plug socket to crack but where cracks appear from the middle of the plug socket face it is likely that excess heat has caused the problem.

Overloading plug sockets can cause excess heat to build up which will destroy the socket and show as small cracks or discolouration on the front face.

2) Crackling Plug Socket

Where a plug socket has begun to make a crackling noise and perhaps function intermittently, this is a serious electrical danger that will require an emergency electrician in Liverpool to attend your home.

Crackling noises occur in electrical systems where loose wiring is present and electrical current is attempting to continue to flow around the electrical circuit. The danger here is that arcing is occurring, a situation where electricity is passing across a tiny gap trying to get to from one electrical wire to the other.

Extreme heat is generated when this occurs which can cause melting and burning to wires and sockets risking electrical fires occurring.

3) Burnt Plug Socket

This is the stage where problems have been occurring for a while and now are very serious. A burnt or melted plug socket should not be used AT ALL.

The remaining plug sockets should also be switched off as a precaution because despite the other electrical sockets appearing safe on the outside, electricity is still passing through the back of the burnt plug socket and likely causing more damage. The potential hazards involved in this situation are serious.

If you have a burnt plug socket then call us straightaway on 0151 351 4011 or WhatsApp on 07858 136 955. Immediate attendance is recommended for this type of electrical emergency.

4) One side of plug socket not working

Where one side of a plug socket is not working there are unlikely to be serious electrical issues with faulty wiring. It is more likely that the plug socket itself is simply faulty. This issue should be solved by installing a new plug socket in place of the old one.

The UK plug socket has an internal mechanism that stop electric shocks form occurring. The mechanism has shutters that cover the Line and Neutral holes in the plug socket face and prevents anything from being inserted unless the earth pin has been inserted first.

This is why the UK plug has a longer earth pin than the live pins so the earth can be partially inserted first (exciting stuff eh?).

The chances are, the mechanism has failed meaning that one side of the plug socket can not be inserted or when it is, correct contact is not made resulting in no power to one side of the socket.
If you have a BROKEN PLUG SCOKET LIVERPOOL then we can attend and fix whatever the problem is for you. Get in touch today.

5) Electrical sockets not working but nothing has tripped

Where none of your electrical sockets are working yet nothing has tripped at the consumer unit, there are likely to be electrical faults present in the consumer unit or on in the home’s electrical system somewhere.

This kind of issue is potentially dangerous as there may still be live wires present even though every socket appears dead. Electrical installations are dangerous and that is why a professional electrician should be called to investigate any power supply failures.

6) Sockets tripping the power

Where electrical outlets are tripping the power to the home, don’t panic, there is likely to be a straightforward cause. This type of emergency electrical job appears to be quite a severe problem as so much of the electrical wiring is affected but in reality, there is often only a minor issue to solve.

Its still important that you act quickly though. Whilst a tripped circuit breaker can be annoying, it is likely to cause further damage to the wiring system or property damage if an immediate response is not actioned.

When a circuit breaker trips, it disposes of large electrical fault currents and as such, this takes its toll on the switch quickly. It is likely to fail if continually reset.

As your local electrician in Liverpool, we can attend for these types of electrical repair quickly.

7) Dead outlets

Where one electrical socket is not working it may be that a new socket is required or could be that there is an issue with one of the electrical devices that you are plugging in.

If you find that one socket outlet appears to be dead, try the appliance in another plug socket to rule out an issue with the plug pins or fuse in the appliance.
