2) Do you need an electrician?

3) I have tried the help sheet and it is no help!

Ok. I understand that there can be a bit of panic when there are electrical problems. The first thing people panic about is the food in the fridge or freezer. 4) Is there absolutely no power?

7) What does it cost to put right an electrical failure?

This is often an unknown. We first have to locate the electrical fault and then either fix it if its straightforward and possible within the first hour OR quote for further works or fault finding. Most electrical problems are resolved within the first hour and if not, we are able to have a conversation about what is required in order to fix it.

8) How long does it take?

Several factors can affect the time taken to locate and repair an electrical fault such as:

• Size of property
• Access to consumer unit
• Access to sockets, switches, and light fittings along with other electrical points
• Age of the wiring
• Nature of the electrical problem
• The availability of the parts for the problem

We can look at several scenarios that may be possible and the time it takes for each to be fixed.

1. Trip Switch won’t reset, problem traced to sockets and from there, a socket in the kitchen that has shorted out. This needs to be replaced and the wiring repaired. 1-2 hours.
2. Trip Switch is intermittently tripping. The problem is traced to lights and each of the lights has to be taken down to find the faulty piece of cable. The problem is down to rodents chewing the cable in the loft cavity and as such there are lots of cables damaged. This requires a partial rewire once the rodents have been removed. Costly £
3. Intermittent power cuts. Faulty connections on the Main Switch have cause it to burn out. Parts available and ready to go. Fixed in 1 to 2 hours.

These are just examples but we can see how there can be several different problems that require different solutions and differing amounts of time and money are required in order to put things right.
