3) Who do you call for an Electrical Emergency?

This depends on the type of electrical emergency that you are experiencing. For ease, I have written a list here of situations that would generally require and electrician to attend and those that may involve someone else.

Electrician Required:  Trip switch problems, intermittent power cuts, loose plug socket, burnt plug socket, loose light switch, Electrical Burning Smells from Fusebox, sockets or shower Brown outs or low power levels.

Electricity Distribution Network Operator Possibly Required: Complete power cut, intermittent power cuts, brown outs, low power levels, burning or damage to the mains supply equipment before the fuse box. Call 105 for your local network operator.

Electricity bills company:  Any problems with the electrical supply from the meter. Burning or damage to the electric meter.

4) Should I call an Emergency Electrician?

There are several reasons to call an emergency electrician. If you are considering asking an electrician to attend during normal working hours then this may take a few days before someone is available to attend. There are certain circumstances that would necessitate an emergency electrician attending immediately.

  • Tripping switch affecting the sockets, fridges, freezers, and boiler – This is a serious inconvenience and may mean that you lose a lot of expensive food should the electrical circuit not be able to be turned back on without fault finding and repair.
  • Burning Electrical Smell – This is a DEFINITE time to call an emergency 24-hour electrician out to investigate what is happening. If the smell is coming from the mains equipment, then it might not be an emergency electrician that you need. Check above for who needs to be called and when.
  • Loose plug sockets and Switches or damaged accessories – It may be best to turn off the affected electrical circuits at the fuse box / consumer unit rather than ask an emergency electrician to come out. If turning off the circuit would cause a great inconvenience to you then its time to call an emergency electrician.
  • Smoke or Electrical Fire – If this is happening right now then turn off the electrical supply to the house and call the emergency services. An emergency electrician can certainly carry out repairs to damaged electrical systems but can’t tackle fires safely.

5) How Much Does an Emergency Electrician Cost?

Each emergency electrician charges a different amount depending upon their business overheads and pricing structure. Our charges can be found on our costs page or our emergency electrician costs page.

Our pricing is very competitive and is much lower than many other companies especially larger national companies but the most important thing is not the cheapest price, the most important thing is YOUR TRUST in your chosen electrician to carry out the best job, fix your emergency, find the electrical fault, and get you back up and running.

Whilst price is an important factor when deciding which contractor to use, you must also consider their insurance, qualifications, experience, knowledge, proven customer reviews and many other aspects of their service.

We are insured, professional, experienced, well qualified and carry out fault finding as the primary aspect of our works. If you need an EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN IN LIVERPOOL, we are well placed to help you.

6) How Long Does It Take for an Emergency Electrician to Come Out?

Normally within 4 hours. Out of hours attendance times are often much quicker.

During out of hours emergencies, attendance times tend to be a little quicker. This is down to the lack of traffic on the roads that is normally experienced during normal working hours. There are generally no scheduled works during the evening and early morning time periods as well meaning that electricians are generally available.

During the daytime, an Emergency Electrician will be able to guarantee ‘same-day’ attendance rather than within two hours. This is because many electricians will have other works booked during the day and may have to slot your emergency into their schedule between other jobs.

7) What is an Electrical Emergency?

An electrical emergency can be anything deemed to be of serious importance or major inconvenience to the user of the electrical installation whether or not this also includes safety concerns.
Generally speaking, an Electrical Emergency would involve either a threat to the safety of the persons in the immediate area or a situation where many parts of the property were affected by the total or partial loss of power.

Electrical emergencies can include:

  • Switch Tripping
  • Fusebox Hot
  • Burning Smell from Shower or Fusebox
  • No Sockets
  • Consumer Unit Problems
  • Shower Problems
  • Cooker Problems
  • Electric Shocks
  • No lights
  • Loud noises from Fuse Box
  • Loss of power to a stairlift or other similar service
  • Loss of power to breathing equipment
  • Power Loss
  • Partial Power Loss
  • Water in electrics

8) Who do you call if there is an Electrical Fire?

If there is an electrical fire, shut off the electrical supply to the property if it is safe to do so and call the local fire service. Fires can develop into complete loss of property or life and should be deemed to be very serious indeed. They often require professional intervention in order to extinguish and no chances should be taken by unqualified persons in dealing with a fire.

9) Can you carry out emergency repairs to appliances?

No unfortunately we do not carry out emergency repairs to appliances. We can occasionally recommend an appliance repair engineer if you contact us during working hours, we would be happy to do this for you.

10) Is a Bad Breaker an Emergency?

A bad breaker can be an emergency. It depends on your level of inconvenience and disruption to your home electrical system as to your opinion on emergency.

Many times, a bad breaker is actually not a bad breaker but an issue on the electrical circuit that the breaker protects. If the breaker is protecting an electrical plug sockets circuit where there is a fridge, a freezer, a boiler and all the house sockets are affected then the situation is pretty much an electrical emergency as the inconvenience is massive. The potential financial cost is great considering the loss of groceries so this would definitely be a situation where an EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN IN LIVERPOOL should be called to investigate.
