Emergency Electrician in Liverpool June 1st 2026

When electrical emergencies strike, you need a professional experienced electrician that deals with emergencies daily!

On this job, the customer had suffered a water escape from the pipework above the kitchen which caused a massive flood. The water cascaded through the ceiling and into the kitchen via the lights. The electricity tripped off fairly quickly preventing electrical shocks and fire but there remained the issue of the soaking wet electrics!

1) What to do in an Electrical Emergency

If you have a similar problem the best thing to do is to shut the power off as quickly as possible to your home electrical system.

  • Locate the Fusebox in your house, it looks like the picture below usually.

2) What happens after flood damage to electrics?

Once water has entered your electrical system, it’s best to shut the power off completely and call and emergency electrician straight away. We will come out quickly and inspect the damage, test the electrical wiring and decide if the power is safe to be reinstated.

In some instances where water damage is substantial, your electrical system will not be safe to be re-energised. Where this happens, we can normally provide some temporary power near the mains so that an extension lead can be used to power up fridges and freezers.

3) Do all the electrics need to stay off after water damage?

Sometimes, there will only be damage to certain electrical circuits. If the water has come from the first floor and only affects ground floor lights and ground floor sockets then it is usually possible to get upstairs lights and socket back on for you.

If the Fusebox has suffered significant water ingress then it’s best to replace the Fusebox or at least, all the switches inside it.

4) Home Insurance and Cover for Emergencies?

If you have home insurance, now is the time to give them a ring and let them know what has happened. They may or may not cover the costs of emergency repairs but get the ball rolling and inform them of what has happened.

5) Will my house need to be rewired?

Following significant water ingress into wiring, sockets, switches and other electrical equipment, it may be necessary to replace various electrical accessories. In severe cases where flood damage has occurred and cables have been submerged or subject to prolonged water ingress, rewiring may be necessary. We can carry out a thorough electrical inspection of your home’s wiring and let you know if any major repairs are likely to be needed.

6) How long after water penetration can the power be restored?

It can take anywhere from 2 to 7 days before the extent of any damage will be known. We have to allow time for the water to fully escape, evaporate and leave your wiring in order to obtain accurate test results. Once your home has had time to dry out, we can fully assess the damage (if any).
